ADTRAN Puts Agile Optical Capabilities on Blade for Total Access 5000

ADTRAN continues to expand and enhance the capabilities of its Total Access 5000 platform with a new mini-ROADM on a blade. These new ONE capabilities provide agile photonics and enhanced service delivery from a single platform for residential, business and mobile backhaul services delivery.

The new OTN Switchponder is a multi-service unit that integrates an OTN switch with DWDM transponder on a single card. It provides remotely configurable any-service to any-port operation. It delivers OTN mapping, switching, aggregation and transport capabilities, allowing operators to transport simultaneously SONET/SDH, Ethernet or other services such as Fibre Channel.

ADTRAN lists the following packet optical benefits:

“It has been our strategy from the outset to provide the market with a merged multi-service access, aggregation and packet optical transport solution that enables higher network efficiency, lower costs and faster time-to-revenue,” said Mano Nachum, packet optical networking product line manager, ADTRAN’s Carrier Networks Division. http://www.adtran.com
