AMD Unveils 5th Gen EPYC CPU, Claims 34% of Server Business

AMD launched its 5th Gen EPYC processors, codenamed “Turin,” aimed at enterprise, AI, and cloud workloads. Featuring the new “Zen 5” core architecture, these CPUs are compatible with the SP5 platform and offer a range of 8 to 192 cores. AMD’s EPYC 9005 Series extends performance and energy efficiency from previous models, with the top 192-core processor delivering up to 2.7 times more performance compared to competitors. Notably, the EPYC 9575F model, tailored for GPU-powered AI, offers up to 5GHz clock speeds, enabling 28% faster processing for AI workloads.

AMD says its new EPYC CPUs deliver up to 17% better instructions per clock (IPC) for enterprise and cloud tasks and up to 37% better IPC for AI and high-performance computing (HPC). Customers can expect faster time to results in key applications, such as video transcoding and HPC challenges. The EPYC 9965 CPU, for example, provides up to 4x faster processing for business applications compared to Intel’s Xeon 8592+ CPUs.

AMD continues to strengthen its leadership in data center innovation, with partners including Cisco, Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Lenovo. These new processors offer core counts up to 192 per CPU, 12 channels of DDR5 memory, support for DDR5-6400 MT/s, and clock speeds up to 5GHz.
