ATM Forum Cites Progress in MPLS Interworking

The ATM Forum reported progress on several fronts from its quarterly meeting earlier this month in Vienna, Virginia. Highlights of the meeting included:

In conjuction with its quarterly meeting, the ATM Forum hosted a Broadband Exchange event, bringing together technical experts to discuss architectural issues for mobile and wireless networks. Topics of interest included the use of ATM to carry data traffic in 2.5 G networks, as well as the use of packet technologies to save money by consolidating and replacing TDM trunks. For instance, Digitel, which provides mobile services to more than a million subscribers in Venezuela, is using IP/ATM to reduce the cost of leased bandwidth between its MSCs.
