AWS has launched the AWS Mexico (Central) Region, expanding its global cloud infrastructure with three Availability Zones in Mexico. This new region allows businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofits to run applications and store data with lower latency while meeting data residency requirements. AWS plans to invest over $5 billion in Mexico over 15 years and estimates that the construction and operation will contribute $10 billion to Mexico’s GDP while creating over 7,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually across various sectors, including construction, engineering, and telecommunications.
The AWS Mexico (Central) Region consists of three Availability Zones, each designed with separate power, cooling, and security, while being interconnected with ultra-low-latency, redundant networks. AWS has also committed to community support by launching a $300,000 AWS InCommunities Fund in Queretaro for local projects. The infrastructure enables customers like BBVA, Grupo Lala, Digital@FEMSA, and Hospital Angeles to leverage AWS services such as AI, ML, data analytics, and storage solutions to drive innovation and business growth.
This expansion adds to AWS’s existing infrastructure investments in Mexico, including seven CloudFront edge locations, AWS Local Zones, and Direct Connect sites, reinforcing its commitment to digital transformation and cloud adoption in the region. The AWS Mexico (Central) Region will help organizations across Latin America scale operations and improve service delivery.
