Cirion Technologies has introduced the South American Crossing-2 (SAC-2) subsea route, a new diverse Atlantic subsea cable designed to enhance connectivity between Latin America and North America. SAC-2 is part of the Firmina subsea system, developed in partnership with Google, and builds on Cirion’s existing South American Crossing (SAC) and Mid Atlantic Crossing (MAC) cables. This new route spans from Praia Grande, Brazil, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, connecting with Cirion’s neutral cable landing station in Las Toninas, Argentina, and aims to go live by Q1 2025.
SAC-2 offers complete route diversity and bypasses conventional Atlantic landing points in Florida and New York. This setup increases network resilience and capacity, giving Cirion a total of two redundant routes between the U.S. and Brazil, as well as two between the U.S. and Argentina. This ultra-low latency connectivity will support Cirion’s growing client base and meet the rising demand for high-speed, high-capacity data transfers across the Americas, a necessity as the demand for cloud computing and AI solutions continues to rise.
The SAC-2 route extends Cirion’s total network, which now exceeds 65,000 miles (~105,000 km) of submarine and terrestrial fiber and includes 18 cable landing stations across six subsea systems. This robust network infrastructure supports Cirion’s offerings, including IP connectivity for major carriers and ISPs, and enhances digital access throughout Latin America.
