Cisco completed interoperability testing of its uBR10012 Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platform with Texas Instruments’ Puma 5 DOCSIS 3.0 CPE development platform. The testing included upstream channel bonding, an important feature of CableLabs’ DOCSIS 3.0 specifications and a key advancement for cable operators.
The companies said the upstream channel-bonding interoperability testing demonstrates that the Cisco uBR10012 CMTS platform may support cable operators’ high-speed cable-modem services with the promise of upload speeds far greater than those available today.
Cisco has previously demonstrated downstream channel bonding, multicast and IPv6.

- In May 2007, Texas Instruments (TI) announced its “Puma 5” DOCSIS 3.0 silicon solution optimized for cable IP services, including voice, data and video. The DSP-based Puma 5 incorporates TI’s VoIP technology and advanced home networking support. The architecture is based upon the DOCSIS 3.0 specification and supports Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), IPV6 and channel bonding. TI said Puma 5 will enable download speeds of 160 Mbps in a low-cost residential configuration and 320 Mbps in a business services configuration.
- The DOCSIS 3.0 specification establishes ways for cable companies to tie multiple 6MHz transmission channels together to deliver data at speeds in excess of 160 Mbps to consumers and at 120 Mbps or more upstream from consumers. DOCSIS 3.0 also incorporates support for IPv6.
