Corning capped off 2024 with a blockbuster fourth quarter, driven by soaring demand in its Optical Communication ssegment, which posted a 51% year-over-year sales growth, reaching $1.4 billion. The Enterprise portion of Optical Communications saw record-breaking 93% YoY growth, fueled by the rapid adoption of Gen AI-driven optical connectivity solutions. Corning’s core sales hit $3.9 billion in Q4, up 18% YoY, while core EPS soared 46% to $0.57.
CEO Wendell P. Weeks highlighted the company’s momentum, stating, “We’re capturing significant sales growth, with powerful incremental profit and cash flow, as upward cyclical and secular trends drive demand for our products and capabilities.”
The ‘Springboard’ plan, launched in 2024 to drive $3 billion in annualized sales by 2026, is off to a strong start. Optical Communications, a key pillar of this growth strategy, has already contributed significantly, alongside double-digit price increases in Display Technologies, which helped stabilize revenue in a weaker yen environment. CFO Ed Schlesinger emphasized, “Strong adoption of our new products for Gen AI drove record sales in Optical Communications, and we successfully implemented pricing strategies in Display Technologies to maintain profitability.”
Looking ahead to Q1 2025, Corning expects core sales to grow another 10% YoY to $3.6 billion, with core EPS rising approximately 30% to $0.48-$0.52. With momentum in fiber optics, AI-powered network infrastructure, and glass technologies, Corning is poised to exceed its ambitious Springboard targets.
