D-Wave Hits $15M Revenue in Quarterly Revenue

D-Wave reported its most successful quarter to date, driven by major technical achievements and a surge in system sales. The company posted $15 million in revenue for Q1 2025—a 509% year-over-year increase—largely due to the sale of its Advantage quantum computing system to the Jülich Supercomputing Centre. D-Wave also ended the quarter with a record $304.3 million in cash on hand, reinforcing its financial position as it aims to reach profitability.

The quarter marked a pivotal moment for the commercial quantum computing firm, highlighted by its peer-reviewed demonstration of quantum supremacy. D-Wave’s annealing system completed a magnetic material simulation in minutes that would take classical supercomputers millions of years and vast amounts of energy. Additionally, Ford Otosan deployed a hybrid quantum scheduling application in production, cutting scheduling time from 30 to under 5 minutes. Japan Tobacco also completed a successful quantum-AI drug discovery trial, while new solver upgrades enabled broader optimization use cases.

The company completed physical assembly of its Advantage2™ system at Davidson Technologies and announced a novel proof-of-quantum-work blockchain hashing method, hinting at quantum’s future role in sustainable computing. Despite a dip in bookings, D-Wave saw growth in its commercial customer base and recorded a significant reduction in losses, with net loss narrowing to $5.4 million and adjusted EBITDA loss improving by 53% to $6.1 million.

Key Technical Milestones:

“The first quarter of 2025 was arguably the most significant in D-Wave’s history,” said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave. “We became the first to demonstrate quantum supremacy on a useful real-world problem, recognized revenue on our first Advantage system sale, and advanced multiple customer applications into production.”
