Far EasTone Deploys Nortel's WiMAX in Taipei

Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), one of Taiwan’s largest telecommunications operators, will offer mobile broadband services across Taipei County using Nortel’s Mobile WiMAX gear. The deployment is part of the government’s M-Taiwan initiative. FET’s network will be built from Nortel’s 16e Base Stations and an Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway. Nortel will also provide network management services from its Global Services portfolio.

• Earlier this month, Motorola announced that Taiwan’s Far EasTone Telecom (FET) had selected its WiMAX infrastructure to support its role in the national M-Taiwan project, an initiative to create a standards-compliant environment supporting services, education, and entertainment on a national level. Motorola said the WiMAX network deployment is the largest roll out to date in Taiwan.
