Army Gen. Keith B. Alexander has been appointed as the first U.S. Cyber Command commander.
The command is charged with pulling together existing cyberspace resources, creating synergy that does not currently exist and synchronizing war-fighting effects to defend the Department of Defense information security environment. The U.S. Cyber Command is based at Fort Meade, Maryland and is a sub-unified command, subordinate to U.S. Strategic Command. Units being integrated into the Cyber Command include the Army Forces Cyber Command, the 24th Air Force, the 10th Fleet and Marine Forces Cyber Command.
