France to Host €10 Billion AI Supercomputer

The French government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fluidstack to build one of the world’s largest decarbonized AI supercomputers, reinforcing France’s leadership in artificial intelligence and digital sovereignty. Announced at the AI Action Summit in Paris, the project will leverage France’s nuclear-powered energy infrastructure to deliver 1 gigawatt (GW) of dedicated AI compute power, supporting the next generation of AI models. The agreement was signed by French Ministers Eric Lombard and Marc Feracci, with President Emmanuel Macron highlighting the initiative as a strategic step in securing France’s position as a global AI hub.

With €10 billion (USD 10.36 billion) in initial investment, the first phase of the facility will become operational in 2026, hosting nearly 500,000 advanced AI processors. France’s national electricity transmission operator, Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), will ensure rapid grid integration, optimizing the use of the country’s low-carbon energy mix. Designed for scalability beyond 1GW by 2028, the project will generate thousands of high-skilled jobs in AI research, infrastructure, and computing, further positioning France alongside the United States and China as a global AI leader.

President Emmanuel Macron said: “France is the leading European country in artificial intelligence. This €10 billion agreement with Fluidstack embodies my ambition.
