GTA, Guam’s longest-serving telecom provider, has launched a new “Air Fiber” broadband service powered by Tarana’s next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) technology. In just 90 days, the network has passed over 30,000 homes and businesses—more than a third of the island’s total—bringing high-speed internet to previously underserved areas. The rollout already includes hundreds of subscribers and enables speeds up to 500 Mbps, a significant improvement over legacy 25 Mbps copper-based services.
Tarana’s ngFWA platform is designed to deliver fiber-class broadband performance with the agility and lower cost of wireless deployment. With over 250 service provider deployments across 24 countries, the technology is gaining traction as a scalable alternative to fiber in hard-to-reach regions. GTA selected Tarana’s platform after evaluating legacy fixed wireless solutions and determining they couldn’t meet performance or scale requirements.
GTA recently installed Air Fiber at Guam Animals in Need (GAIN), a local non-profit shelter, providing them with donated high-speed service. “Partnering with GTA has been a game-changer,” said GAIN Executive Director Alison Hadley. “It helps us stay connected, work faster, and support more people.” Tarana CEO Basil Alwan added, “GTA’s work to close the digital divide in Guam is critical, and we are proud to support their efforts.”
