HPE and KDDI will open a new AI data center in Osaka Sakai by early 2026, featuring HPE-built NVIDIA Blackwell GPU infrastructure with advanced liquid cooling to support Japan’s AI innovation drive. The facility will host a rack-scale NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 system built by HPE to accelerate AI training, inferencing, and development of large language models (LLMs) for startups and enterprises.
The Osaka Sakai Data Center will combine air and direct liquid cooling to maximize energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 platform integrates NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell GPUs, NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand, Spectrum-X Ethernet, BlueField-3 DPUs, and NVIDIA AI Enterprise software. HPE brings five decades of liquid cooling expertise and extensive experience building large AI clusters for deployment in high-density environments like KDDI’s new site.
KDDI plans to offer cloud-based AI computing services through its WAKONX business platform, enabling domestic and global customers to access accelerated infrastructure for generative AI development. The collaboration reflects a broader effort to deliver sustainable, high-performance AI infrastructure as demand for AI systems surges worldwide.
