Huawei has commenced the worldwide commercial rollout of its Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) Tri-Band Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology, targeting the 1.8 GHz, 2.1 GHz, and 2.6 GHz frequency bands. This initiative aims to optimize sub-3 GHz spectrum utilization, addressing the escalating demand for 4G data traffic and enhancing the 5G user experience. Initial deployments have begun in African nations such as Nigeria, Angola, and Côte d’Ivoire, with plans to expand to 15 additional countries across the Asia Pacific, Central Asia, and Latin America regions.
Operators implementing Huawei’s FDD Tri-Band Massive MIMO have reported a 90% increase in 4G traffic handling during peak hours, a 320% boost in user-perceived speeds, and a 50% reduction in physical resource block usage compared to traditional 4T4R solutions. The technology employs advanced Real Wide Bandwidth and Compact Dipole innovations, allowing multiple bands to share the same hardware components. This design results in a product that is 48% lighter and smaller, consumes 10% less power, and reduces operational costs related to tower rentals and energy consumption.
