Huawei and major telecom operators highlighted the rapid progress of F5.5G all-optical networks at the F5.5G All-Optical Industry Summit during MWC Shanghai 2025. Industry leaders—including China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, Malaysia’s Maxis, and CTM—shared deployment updates, emphasizing the role of 10 Gbps all-optical broadband and 400G optical transport in powering next-gen AI-driven services.
Huawei’s “F5.5G” (short for Fixed 5.5G) is not an official standard but a company-driven concept that envisions the evolution of fixed broadband networks beyond current gigabit services. The framework focuses on delivering 10 Gbps+ access, sub-millisecond latency, deterministic performance, and AI-optimized service experiences. It incorporates advanced technologies such as 50G PON and 400G optical transport, with intelligent orchestration to support next-gen residential and enterprise services. The term is part of Huawei’s technology roadmap to influence ecosystem discussions around fixed network upgrades for the AI era.
Huawei says that global deployment of F5.5G all-optical networks is accelerating. More than 70 operators now offer 10 Gbps broadband services, while 400G transport networks have been deployed in over 240 networks worldwide. The industry is also moving toward metro networks with sub-1 millisecond latency to enable cloud-based computing for AI applications. Huawei unveiled new F5.5G innovations—including an AI home hub and 50G PON upgrades—designed to deliver visibly better broadband, differentiated user experiences, and new AI services for both residential and enterprise markets.
