In a keynote at the 10th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2024) in Istanbul, Bob Chen, President of Huawei’s Optical Business Product Line, emphasized the need for AI-centric advancements in all-optical networks to foster industry growth in his keynote address, “Build AI-Centric F5.5G All-Optical Network for New Growth.” As AI technology continues to advance, with over 1,300 foundation models now deployed across various industries, Chen highlighted how AI is transforming daily life, work, and production. For telecom carriers, leveraging AI requires a robust network infrastructure characterized by high bandwidth, low latency, and reliability.
Chen said Huawei aims to meet these demands by innovating in F5.5G optical transmission, optical access, and an AI-powered management platform to enhance device-cloud synergy and intelligent computing.
Chen shared that Huawei’s optical transmission technology, designed for data centers and metro edges, can expand AI computing from thousands to millions of cards. By extending optical switching to metro networks, Huawei enables carriers to establish low-latency “one-hop” all-optical connections, improving user experience. In optical access, Huawei promotes premium broadband services through coverage, bandwidth, and experience monetization. Their FTTR solution, already adopted by over 30 million users, supports smart home innovations like AI-powered storage and healthcare. Huawei’s management platform uses AI models and digital twins to proactively diagnose and improve network performance, reducing complaints by 30%. Chen concluded with Huawei’s commitment to collaborating with industry partners to drive AI adoption and create new business opportunities.
Highlights:
• AI foundation models are transforming various industries, necessitating advanced, AI-ready network infrastructures.
• Huawei’s optical switching solutions boost data center efficiency and enable low-latency metro network connectivity.
