iBasis Deploys NexTone's Multiprotocol Session Controllers

iBasis is deploying NexTone’s Multiprotocol Session Controller in its global VoIP network to address interoperability and security issues in peering with its large number of carrier customers. The NexTone MSC provides iBasis with call admission control, route enforcement and the regulation of bandwidth consumption to manage multimedia flows across IP interconnects for both carrier and enterprise boundaries. Additionally the NexTone MSC provides stateful protocol interworking between SIP and H.323, different implementations of T.38 fax, as well as between multi-vendor VoIP networks. NexTone said its platform enables carriers to quickly adapt their peering points to the nuances of partners’ VoIP networks. Typical areas of incompatibility include VoIP signaling, T.38 fax interconnection, and DTMF.

iBasis, which operates a Cisco-powered network, is one of the ten largest carriers of international phone calls. Its VoIP network has over 850 POPs in 90 countries and is currently carrying approximately 3.5 billion minutes per year. In addition to its wholesale international call completion service, iBasis provides retail international prepaid calling cards through major calling card distributors, and offers a hosted prepaid billing platform, as well as global access to providers of enhanced services such as prepaid calling cards and audioconferencing.

NexTone said its session controllers are now deployed in over 75 carrier networks.
