Lightwave Logic and Polariton Technologies have expanded their technical collaboration to integrate electro-optic (EO) polymers with plasmonic circuits, aiming to overcome the bandwidth and scalability limitations of traditional modulator materials. This partnership focuses on developing high-speed, energy-efficient photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for AI clusters, data centers, and optical networking applications. The combined technology is designed to enable 400Gbps per lane data transmission, with a roadmap to 800Gbps per lane and beyond.
The collaboration targets the bottlenecks of existing materials such as indium phosphide, silicon photonics, and thin-film lithium niobate. By leveraging plasmonics and EO polymers, the companies aim to achieve modulator frequencies reaching 800 GHz in the future, supporting AI-driven workloads and next-generation optical interconnects. As part of this effort, Lightwave Logic will supply its EO polymer materials while both companies focus on qualification, reliability testing, and integration with semiconductor fabrication and outsourced assembly operations.
Polariton has developed O-band products incorporating Lightwave Logic’s EO polymers, which are currently available for sampling with select customers. The joint initiative is expected to advance the adoption of polymer-based modulators for next-generation AI and data transmission networks.
