MACOM Takes Full Control of GaN-on-SiC Foundry in North Carolina

MACOM Technology Solutions has completed the transfer of operations at its newly acquired semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. The facility, which specializes in gallium nitride on silicon carbide (GaN-on-SiC) technologies, now operates fully under MACOM’s control, six months ahead of the original timeline.

The RTP fab produces high-performance GaN-on-SiC devices used in RF power systems and monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), key components in telecom infrastructure and defense applications. It holds the designation of a U.S. Department of Defense Trusted Foundry, giving it strategic importance in national security supply chains. MACOM’s early operational takeover suggests a strong internal commitment to scaling its compound semiconductor capabilities.

MACOM said the transition allows its team to focus on operational enhancements across yield, throughput, and quality. The company has been steadily expanding its portfolio in advanced RF and microwave components amid growing demand for domestic and defense-grade semiconductors.
