Mexico’s MXT Expands Fiber Network with Ciena’s 400G Coherent Routing

MXT Holdings (MXT) is deploying Ciena’s coherent routing solution to enhance its fiber optic network across Central and Southeast Mexico. The upgrade supports growing traffic demands driven by 5G, cloud applications, and digital transformation. MXT operates over 3,500 km (2,175 miles) of long-haul and metropolitan fiber networks across key regions, including Quintana Roo, Chiapas, and Tabasco.

The deployment strengthens connectivity between Mexico City and Monterrey, creating a more resilient and scalable infrastructure. With Ciena’s technology, MXT can offer up to 400G connectivity for data centers, high-performance computing networks, enterprises, and service providers. The solution optimizes network performance by reducing hardware complexity, improving operational efficiency, and accelerating service delivery.

Ciena’s 5164 Router and 8114 Coherent Aggregation Router with WaveLogic 5 Nano (WL5n) 400ZR pluggable transceivers will power MXT’s network, running over Ciena’s Coherent ELS and 6500 open line systems. The deployment integrates Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite for streamlined network management and PinPoint OTDR for advanced monitoring and diagnostics.
