Muon Space Wins NRO Stage II Contract for Infrared Satellite

Muon Space has received a Stage II contract from the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) under the Strategic Commercial Enhancements (SCE) Broad Agency Announcement, marking a critical advancement for its electro-optical and infrared (EO/IR) satellite capabilities. The Mountain View-based company will now move forward with on-orbit validation and demonstration of its end-to-end multispectral EO/IR technology.

The award expands Muon’s role in supplying persistent infrared sensing data for national security missions, including intelligence gathering, disaster response, and strategic early warning. The Stage II contract builds on Muon’s initial NRO award and emphasizes rapid revisit rates, global thermal activity monitoring, and flexible sensor platforms. Muon’s vertically integrated architecture and dual-use instruments are tailored for scalability, supporting a constellation aimed at real-time situational awareness.

The Muon Halo™ platform underpins the company’s offering, integrating spacecraft, sensing systems, and on-orbit data processing to accelerate deployment and enhance mission adaptability. “This follow-on award signals growing confidence in our ability to deliver timely, high-quality data from space—a core requirement for national security and disaster resilience alike,” said Jonny Dyer, CEO of Muon Space.
