Rubrik, a start-up based in Palo Alto, California, closed $61 million in new venture funding and launched version 3.0 of its Cloud Data Management platform, which delivers data protection, search and analytics, archiving and compliance, and copy data management capabilities for hybrid cloud enterprises.

- Instant Access – Rubrik delivers instant application recovery and predictive global search by unifying data locked within disparate application silos into one globally indexed namespace while leveraging zero-data cloning technology to enable on-demand copy data workflows.
- Automated Orchestration – Rubrik nearly eliminates daily operational management by enabling a single policy engine to orchestrate service level agreements across the entire data lifecycle. The Rubrik programmatic interface automates how data services are created, consumed, and retired across clouds.
- Security and Compliance – Rubrik secures data whether in-flight or at-rest throughout its lifecycle, regardless of location. The Rubrik platform delivers granular user provisioning and data permissions across all cloud data management workflows while providing automated compliance reporting to successfully complete various industry and internal audits.
The $61 million Series C funding round was led by Khosla Ventures with heavy participation from existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Greylock Partners and angel investors. The company has raised $112 million to date.

- Rubrik is headed by Bipul Sinha, who previously was a partner at Lightspeed, where he invested in Nutanix (founding investor and board member), PernixData, and Numerify.) Its founders also include Arvind Jain, previously a Distinguished Engineer at Google where he started/managed the Google Fiber, MapMaker and YouTube and Search infrastructure teams; Soham Mazumdar, who was the co-founder and CTO at Tagtile, a mobile loyalty company (acquired by Facebook) and who co-founded Teragoogle, a complete re-architecture of Google’s Search Infrastructure, for which he was awarded the Google Founder’s Award; and Arvind Nithrakashyap, who led the real-time ad infrastructure team at Rocketfuel and previously co-founded the Exadata storage platform at Oracle.
