SubCom Surpasses One Million Kilometers of Subsea Cable Deployment

SubCom has reached a historic milestone, becoming the first company to deploy over one million kilometers of subsea cable. The achievement was recognized at a special event on the company’s Newington, New Hampshire campus, where CEO David Coughlan accepted a commendation from New Hampshire Governor Kelly Ayotte.

SubCom, with roots stretching back to the mid-1800s and officially entering the communications industry in 1955, has played a pivotal role in building the backbone of the global internet. The company’s cumulative subsea cable deployments now exceed the distance required to circle the Earth more than 25 times. SubCom continues to serve as a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and installation of subsea fiber optic cables that support high-speed international data transmission.

The company emphasized the importance of resilient infrastructure and the skilled workforce behind its success. “This milestone is a testament to several factors: the remarkable capability and adaptability of subsea cables, which are the backbone of the global data network; the strength of our country and our state’s manufacturing sectors; and, most importantly, the dedication and expertise of our employees,” said SubCom CEO David Coughlan.
