1&1 Versatel is upgrading its nationwide fiber optic network in Germany with Adtran’s FSP 3000 flexgrid WDM technology to boost data transmission capacity and meet rising digital demands. The upgraded infrastructure supports data rates of up to 800Gbit/s across 65,000 km (40,390 miles) of fiber. The deployment also features Adtran’s ALM fiber monitoring solution for real-time oversight, improving network reliability and reducing downtime. With design support from dacoso GmbH, the enhanced network aims to strengthen connectivity for businesses and public institutions across Germany, future-proofing the infrastructure for evolving digital needs.

• 65,000 km (40,390 miles) of fiber optic infrastructure upgraded

• 800 Gbit/s maximum supported data rate per wavelength

• Over 135 locations receiving network rollouts in 2024

• Covers 250 fiber optic connections across 75 key traffic routes

• Includes Adtran’s ALM fiber monitoring for real-time network assurance

• Designed with partner dacoso GmbH for a scalable, secure solution

“Together with the dacoso team, we’re delivering a comprehensive solution that addresses current challenges and anticipates future needs in terms of capacity, timing and security. Our combined expertise ensures that 1&1 Versatel’s new infrastructure is robust, scalable and equipped to handle the evolving demands of tomorrow’s digital landscape,” commented Christoph Glingener, CTO of Adtran. “By enabling 1&1 Versatel’s customers to harness new digital tools and innovative technologies, we’re empowering them to remain competitive and thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.”
