Why are data centers moving from InfiniBand to Ethernet for AI clusters?

Amit Sanyal, Senior Director, Data Center Product Marketing from Juniper explains:

– Benchmark tests show comparable job completion times between InfiniBand and Ethernet in AI workloads, debunking InfiniBand’s perceived performance advantage

– Ethernet offers a broader ecosystem with faster innovation, competitive pricing, and earlier availability of high-speed solutions (800G in 2024 vs. InfiniBand’s 2025)

– Organizations can leverage existing tools and tap into a larger pool of Ethernet-trained professionals, leading to better TCO
