Delta Air Lines has selected the Hughes Fusion Simultaneous Multi-Orbit In-Flight Connectivity Solution for select new Airbus A350, A321neo, and Boeing 717 aircraft. This next-generation system integrates low Earth orbit (LEO) and geostationary (GEO) satellite capacity to enhance in-flight connectivity performance. The Fusion system is expected to be introduced on Delta’s 717 aircraft in the second half of 2025, complementing Delta’s existing fleet of more than 400 aircraft already equipped with Hughes connectivity solutions.
Hughes developed the Fusion system to dynamically leverage multiple satellite networks, optimizing passenger connectivity based on location, demand, and network conditions. This approach enhances reliability and coverage, ensuring seamless gate-to-gate internet access. Delta conducted extensive system analysis, lab evaluation, and in-flight testing before selecting Hughes as its connectivity partner for future aircraft deliveries. The new system supports Delta Sync, the airline’s next-generation in-flight entertainment and connectivity platform.
Hughes will showcase the Fusion In-Flight Connectivity Solution at Satellite 2025 in Washington, D.C., and at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Germany. The technology aims to set a new standard for commercial aviation connectivity, offering increased resiliency and performance across multiple satellite orbits.
