Semiconductor startup Retym has officially launched from stealth mode with over $180 million in total funding, including a newly secured $75 million Series D round led by Spark Capital. The company, based in Cupertino, California, is focused on developing programmable coherent digital signal processors (DSPs) that enable high-speed, power-efficient data transmission within and between AI and cloud data centers. With AI workloads straining existing infrastructure, Retym aims to remove bandwidth bottlenecks through a multi-generation roadmap of coherent DSP solutions.

Joining Spark Capital in the Series D round are returning investors Kleiner Perkins, Mayfield, and Fidelity Investments, signaling continued support for Retym’s long-term vision. James Kuklinski, General Partner at Spark Capital, has also joined the company’s board. The capital infusion will accelerate product development and prepare Retym’s DSPs for full-scale production. These next-gen chips are designed to deliver high performance at lower power, directly addressing the scalability challenges facing hyperscale and AI-centric networks.

Retym enters the market as coherent optics gain traction beyond traditional metro and long-haul transport and into intra-data center applications. This shift is being driven by the explosive growth of AI/ML clusters and foundation model training infrastructure. By blurring the traditional lines between inside-the-data-center connectivity and inter-data-center transport, Retym’s products are uniquely positioned to bridge the performance and power gap emerging in modern AI network architectures.

Retym’s leadership team, including CEO and co-founder Sachin Gandhi, brings together expertise from across analog design, VLSI, DSP, and optical systems. The company is preparing to unveil its first wave of DSP products aimed at high-speed transceiver designs, with a focus on interoperability, scalability, and efficiency.
