PacketLight Unveils 32-Port Flex Grid ROADM

PacketLight Networks has launched a new reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) with 32 Flex Grid ports, designed to power next-generation mesh and ring optical networks. The PL-1000GRO is a compact 1U device that supports colorless, directionless, and Flex Grid architectures, enabling operators to dynamically route, add, or drop wavelengths at any node within the network.

At the core of the solution is a next-gen wavelength-selective switch that supports mixed channel spacing — 50/75/100/150GHz — across a single fiber. This flexible configuration allows operators to carry varied wavelength capacities, including 100G, 200G, 400G, 800G, and emerging 1.6T traffic, maximizing spectral efficiency. Integrated optical amplifiers and optical channel monitoring (OCM) further optimize network performance and reduce operational complexity.

Targeted for use in wavelength routing, metro ring and mesh connectivity, and multi-site data center interconnects, the PL-1000GRO is managed via PacketLight’s LightWatch NMS platform. The system supports end-to-end wavelength provisioning and includes restoration path creation and protection switching features.
