The AI-RAN Alliance has grown to more than 100 members in just over a year since its 2024 launch, reflecting accelerating global interest in integrating artificial intelligence into Radio Access Networks (RAN). The consortium now spans 17 countries and includes a diverse mix of technology companies, academic institutions, service providers, research labs, and industry groups, all working to drive AI-native transformation in mobile infrastructure.
The newest member, Vodafone, joins other key players in exploring how AI can be embedded across RAN functions — not only to enhance performance but to enable new capabilities at the edge. Vodafone’s Head of Open RAN, Francisco Martin, highlighted the strategic importance of co-hosting AI and RAN workloads on shared infrastructure, describing it as a path to greater efficiency and innovation in real-time network operations.
Founded in 2024, the AI-RAN Alliance is chaired by Alex Jinsung Choi of SoftBank Corp.’s Research Institute of Advanced Technology. The group aims to accelerate the development and deployment of AI-RAN technologies through open collaboration, experimental validation, and deployment-focused research that supports the evolution of next-generation mobile networks.
