1Finity, a Fujitsu company, announced the launch of the Open Networking Innovation Center – Americas (ONIC-Americas) at its Sunnyvale, California campus. Backed by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the facility extends the work of ONIC-Europe by offering a collaborative space for operators, vendors, and integrators to test multivendor interoperability and accelerate adoption of low-power, high-capacity solutions. The initiative is closely aligned with the Open All-Photonics Network (APN) and IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) frameworks.
Set to open in November 2025, ONIC-Americas will enable real-world equipment interoperability testing with a focus on IP-over-DWDM integration and high-performance networking. Participants will be able to bring their own gear to validate compatibility and performance across vendor ecosystems. The lab also includes showcase demonstrations of energy-efficient optical networking using 1.2 Tbps transponders, remote optical monitoring, and AI-driven fault analytics.
1Finity highlighted three initial demonstrations:
- 1.2 Tbps transmission via the T900 series liquid-cooled transponder
- Remote optical monitoring and dynamic latency adjustment for APN
- AI-enabled Accelerated Root Cause Analysis (aRCA) for network alarms
“The 1Finity Open Networking Innovation Center – Americas will be a catalyst for innovation, enabling a truly collaborative experience where the brightest minds in networking can come together to envision the future of connectivity,” said Rod Naphan, Chief Revenue Officer at 1Finity.
🌐 Analysis: This new lab positions 1Finity to play a central role in the industry’s push toward disaggregated and interoperable networking stacks, a key demand for AI-scale and sovereign infrastructure buildouts. The focus on APN and IOWN suggests alignment with Japan’s next-gen networking agenda. 1Finity’s emphasis on energy-efficient 1.2 Tbps transmission and AI-enhanced O&M capabilities mirrors recent moves by Infinera and Ciena to showcase sustainable, intelligent optical networking platforms.
