i4Networks Taps Nokia ROADM to Boost European DCI

i4Networks has deployed Nokia’s optical solutions to launch next-generation data center interconnection (DCI) services across the Netherlands, with plans to extend into neighboring countries. The new optical backbone strengthens the Netherlands’ role as a European internet hub, delivering faster, more cost-efficient, and resilient connectivity to meet surging data center and cross-border traffic demand.

The deployment integrates i4Networks’ Software Defined Wave Switching (SDWS), enabling customers to activate high-capacity optical services in days instead of weeks. This marks a shift for i4Networks, moving beyond traditional transparent IP/MPLS services by introducing on-demand optical service activation with higher capacity, lower latency, and stronger security. The solution is designed for cloud providers, AI infrastructure, media services, and financial trading workloads that require fast and dynamic scaling.

Nokia’s 1830 PSS-8 and 1830 PSI-M platforms power the network, offering scalable 100G and 400G optical connectivity. Built-in resilience enables automated rerouting in the event of fiber cuts or failures, ensuring continuous and secure service delivery. Nokia’s latest ROADM technology also allows for dynamic wavelength management, reducing operational complexity and accelerating new service rollouts.
