ECOC25: Teledyne LeCroy Debuts 1.6T Ethernet Generator

Teledyne LeCroy will unveil what it calls the world’s first 1.6 terabit Ethernet traffic generator at ECOC 2025 in Copenhagen. The new Xena Z1608 Edun platform supports CR/KR-compliant 224G PAM4 signaling and is designed to validate next-generation Ethernet performance for AI-driven and high-performance computing (HPC) networks.

The Z1608 Edun provides a wide range of test capabilities across multiple speeds—1.6T, 800G, 400G, 200G, and 100G Ethernet—using both 224G and 112G SerDes. It supports OSFP-1600 interfaces for optical and copper media, enabling developers to validate switches, NICs, transceivers, and cables in diverse test environments. Test methodologies include RFC2544, RFC2889, and Ultra Ethernet testing.

Teledyne LeCroy integrated the traffic generator with its XenaManager and Python-based Xena OpenAutomation (XOA) suite, making it suitable for performance validation, quality assurance, and multi-vendor interoperability testing. “The Xena Z1608 Edun sets a new standard for Ethernet traffic generation—empowering developers to push the boundaries of speed, reliability, and innovation,” said the company.

🌐 Analysis: The launch of the Z1608 reflects a growing industry need for scalable Ethernet testing as AI data centers adopt 224G SerDes and 1.6T Ethernet architectures. Teledyne LeCroy’s integration of Ultra Ethernet testing aligns with industry consortia efforts to ensure interoperability across hyperscaler-driven networks. Competitors such as Keysight and Spirent have expanded their Ethernet testing portfolios but have yet to announce 1.6T traffic generators with 224G PAM4 capabilities, giving Teledyne LeCroy an early positioning advantage in this space.
