Google Cloud to Build New Türkiye Region as Part of $2B, 10-Year Investment

Google Cloud plans to launch a new cloud region in Türkiye as part of a decade-long $2 billion investment, marking one of the country’s largest foreign digital-infrastructure commitments. The project is being developed in collaboration with Turkcell, which also plans to invest $1 billion in data centers and cloud technologies to support the rollout.

The new region aims to meet rising demand for low-latency, high-performance cloud and AI services across Türkiye and EMEA. Local enterprises, banks, airlines, and public-sector organizations will gain access to Google Cloud’s full stack of data, analytics, cybersecurity, and AI capabilities while maintaining data sovereignty and regulatory compliance. Google currently operates 42 regions and 127 zones globally.

Turkcell will play a central role in hosting, building, and operating parts of the infrastructure, positioning the operator as a strategic partner in a hyperscale project rather than a downstream channel. This expands Turkcell’s long-running push to diversify beyond connectivity into cloud, enterprise IT, and digital services—at a time when many global telecom operators have pulled back from similar large-scale cloud ventures.

• New Türkiye cloud region part of Google Cloud’s $2 billion, 10-year investment

• Turkcell plans an additional $1 billion investment in data centers and cloud technologies

• Local region designed for low latency, high availability, and AI workloads

• Supports digital transformation across banking, aviation, public sector, and enterprise

• Data sovereignty and enhanced security emphasized for regulated industries

• Turkey becomes a regional hub tied directly into Google’s global network

“Our partnership with Google Cloud clearly reinforces Turkcell’s leadership in driving Türkiye’s digital transformation… This new Google Cloud region will enable enterprises to innovate faster and compete globally. As part of this partnership Turkcell plans to invest $1 billion in data centers and cloud technologies,” said Dr. Ali Taha Koç, CEO of Turkcell.

🌐  Analysis

Turkcell’s role in this project marks a departure from the approach taken by many telecom operators, who have often ceded hyperscale cloud infrastructure to global providers. By directly partnering with Google Cloud at the regional-infrastructure level, Turkcell embeds itself in the value chain—leveraging its existing data-center footprint, local regulatory expertise, customer channels, and operational infrastructure. This aligns with the company’s broader strategy to expand into cloud, cybersecurity, and digital services following years of investment in its interconnection and data-center assets. It also strengthens Türkiye’s push toward digital sovereignty while positioning Turkcell as a long-term infrastructure and go-to-market partner in the hyperscale ecosystem.
