Sumitomo Electric Industries announced a high-efficiency broadband power amplifier for base stations. The device covers a wide radio frequency (RF) bandwidth and conforms to LTE-Advanced specifications.
Sumitomo notes that RF power amplifiers typically consume most of power required in a cellular base station.
The company said its design optimizes the fundamental frequency and the high-order harmonics over a wide frequency range inside the amplifier modules incorporated in a Doherty amplifier. Its design achieves a high power efficiency of 53% or more at a wide band of over 100 MHz.
