Juniper Acquire Mykonos for Intrusion Deception System

Juniper Networks has acquired Mykonos Software, which supplies an Intrusion Deception System for protecting websites and web applications, for approximately $80 million in cash.

The Mykonos intrusion deception system, which uses deceptive tar traps, is capable of detecting an attacker before an attack is in progress, catching an attack in progress, profiling the attack, learning the attacker’s behavior, and then use that behavior to thwart future attacks. The company said that unlike current solutions such as web security appliances and Web Application Firewalls (WAFs), its system provides device level tracking beyond IP address tracking that allows for attackers to be uniquely identified, monitored and blocked.

Mykonos is based in San Francisco. The company was founded in 2009 by David Koretz.

Juniper said the acquisition extends its security footprint to bring next-generation, deception-based web application security to physical, virtual and cloud environments.
