Sony Ericsson has selected Aricent’s multimedia encoders and decoders (codecs) for inclusion in its next generation, Symbian operating system-based mobile phones.

Aricent’s Multimedia Suite includes a range of applications and codecs that enable handset manufacturers to quickly launch highly differentiated products.

“Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications has clearly established a leadership position in mobile multimedia devices,” said Sanjay Dhawan, President and COO of Aricent. “We are thrilled to be a part of Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications’ innovative wireless multimedia solutions and look forward to a long and mutually rewarding partnership.”

Aricent noted its long history of providing advanced multimedia technology, software and integration services for mobile devices and voice over IP applications.
