NDS Supplies IPTV/VOD Content Protection in Spain

Auna, Spain’s second largest network operator, selected NDS for its IP television offering and Video-on-Demand service. Using NDS’ “Synamedia” solution integrated with its “VideoGuard” ) content protection, Auna will make its existing cable pay-TV service and Video-on-Demand available to new subscribers that are connected to the Auna broadband ADSL network. NDS will protect Auna’s IPTV and VOD broadband roll out for Spain’s major cities.

NDS said its architecture protects content at all stages of broadband IP delivery–from the broadband access point through the last mile to the IP STB in the home. Auna are also adding Video-on-Demand for their existing Cable TV customers using VideoGuard.

NDS has also been selected for IPTV deployments including BB TV in Japan, CYTA, and recently Viasat in Sweden and SuperSun in Hong Kong.

  • NDS is a majority-owned subsidiary of News Corporation.
  • In June 2005, Auna selected Alcatel as its IP Triple Play turnkey project integrator, and as the supplier for most essential network components and service delivery platforms. Along with the DSL access network, Alcatel will deploy its MPLS metropolitan aggregation network solution for AUNA. Alcatel will integrate the softswitch-based VoIP solution, which enables a fast deployment on existing platforms. As in other major IPTV contracts around the world, Alcatel will act as overall systems integrator, managing the overall project and being responsible for integrating the network management aspects from other supplier’s equipment.
