Cisco
Systems appointed Charles H. Giancarlo to the position of Chief
Technology Officer (CTO). In addition, Giancarlo will assume
responsibility for the Global Government Solutions Group, while
continuing to lead Cisco’s voice and home networking businesses and
serving as President of Cisco-Linksys. Giancarlo joined Cisco in
December 1994 through the acquisition of Kalpana. Most recently
Giancarlo served as the co-leader of network switching, one of Cisco’s
core technologies, and as the co-leader of several advanced
technologies, including voice, storage networking and network security.

Cisco Systems announced several other changes to the technology
organization under Mario Mazzola, Senior Vice President and Chief
Development Officer. The appointments include:

Jayshree Ullal,
senior vice president, will lead the newly-formed Security Technology
Group, reporting to Mazzola.

Luca Cafiero,
senior vice president, will lead the newly-formed Data Center,
Storage, Switching, and Wireless Technology Group, reporting to
Mazzola.

Tony Bates, vice
president and general manager, will now have sole responsibility for
the Carrier Core Multiservice Business Unit, reporting to Prem Jain
and Mike Volpi, both senior vice presidents of the Routing Technology
Group.

Kathy Hill, vice
president and general manager, will now report to Mazzola, overseeing
the newly-formed Mid-range and Stackable Switching Technology Group.

Kambiz Hooshmand,
vice president and general manager, will now report to Mazzola,
assuming new responsibilities leading the Optical and Broadband
Transport Technology Group.
