A A

Phonom, a new privately held telecommunications company, announced its entrance into the market for residential digital IP telephony services in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey. Phonom is using Lucent Technologies’ “Accelerate” VoIP portfolio and IP network services from Cavalier Telephone. Cavalier Telephone also serves as PHONOM’s wholesale DSL provider, although its VoIP services will be available over any broadband connection.

Pricing starts at $34.99 per month for one telephone account with unlimited local/LD calling in the U.S. and Canada with 12 call management features.

The Lucent solutions currently being deployed by Phonom include the Accelerate portfolio’s VoIP switching platforms, web-enabled voice mail and a unifying web portal that enables consumers to manage phone calls, e-mails, voice mail, calendars, address books and more from any computer or personal digital assistant.

Phonom was founded in 2003 by Brad Evans, who is also the founder of Cavalier Telephone, the Richmond-based local and long distance service provider. Cavalier currently serves over 260,000 telephone lines with annualized revenues of over $192 million.

Equity backers for Phonom include MC Venture Partners, Bank of America Capital Investors, and BB&T Capital Partners. http://www.phonom.com
