IDT (Integrated Device Technology) introduced a communications processor targeting digital home networks, including devices such as media servers, media adapters and IP-based network appliances. Delivering frequencies up to 400 MHz, the new IDT processor includes a PCI interface, providing connectivity to off-the-shelf peripherals such as 802.11a/b/g and serial ATA. The processor also integrates a 16-bit wide DDR memory controller that delivers performance usually achieved with a larger memory subsystem footprint. An integrated non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM) and an authentication unit (AU) for security functionality allow designers to differentiate their designs by developing solutions that enable digital content protection applications and unique identification storage.
“Following the widespread deployment of broadband access and the commoditization of customer premises equipment, the introduction of multimedia network appliances is the next evolutionary phase of the digital home network,” said Matt Jones, marketing manager for the IDT Internetworking Products Division.
