Ericsson and e& UAE have deployed Ericsson’s dual-band Massive MIMO radio, AIR 3229, on e& UAE’s 5G network. This deployment, one of the first globally, expands 5G coverage on the 2600MHz and 3500MHz spectrum layers while addressing challenges like site acquisition and tower load management. The integration is a key milestone in e& UAE’s 5G expansion strategy, designed to enhance network capacity, improve performance, and reduce environmental impact.

The AIR 3229 radio doubles the number of TDD carrier components from two to four using a single unit, significantly boosting high-capacity 5G site efficiency. This innovation minimizes power consumption by 20% and tower load by 25% compared to conventional deployments with two separate radios. Built on Ericsson Silicon and part of the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, the solution optimizes energy efficiency, contributing to e& UAE’s sustainability goals.

• Deployed dual-band Massive MIMO radio, AIR 3229, on 2600MHz and 3500MHz spectrums.

• Increased TDD carrier components from two to four at high-capacity sites.

• Reduced power consumption by 20% and tower load by 25% compared to traditional methods.

• Enabled streamlined installation and simplified site acquisition.

• Supports energy-efficient, cost-effective 5G network expansion.

Marwan Bin Shakar, SVP of Access Network Development at e& UAE, stated, “Ericsson’s dual-band Massive MIMO radio supports our efforts to deliver enhanced 5G experiences while optimizing energy efficiency and reducing our environmental impact.”
