Verizon Launches Enhanced Video Calling Based on Network Slicing

Verizon launched Enhanced Video Calling, leveraging network slicing technology to improve video communication on iPhones. The feature is now available on iPhone 14 or newer devices running iOS 18.2, in select 5G Ultra Wideband areas. Enhanced Video Calling supports applications such as FaceTime, WhatsApp, and Zoom, promising clearer connections even in high-traffic network environments. The service is included with Verizon’s Unlimited Ultimate and Business Unlimited Pro 5G plans.

Network slicing enables Verizon to dynamically allocate network resources based on specific application needs. This approach ensures smooth video calls, uninterrupted real-time collaboration, and low latency, even during peak usage times. Enhanced Video Calling demonstrates Verizon’s ongoing investment in 5G technology to cater to data-intensive demands from video calls, cloud gaming, and virtual collaboration.

The 5G standalone core, combined with AI and machine learning, powers these capabilities. Network slicing enables Verizon to tailor network performance for different applications, from low-bandwidth IoT devices to latency-sensitive gaming. This adaptability allows Verizon to meet the unique needs of diverse use cases, optimizing customer experiences across its advanced 5G infrastructure.
