Google has partnered with Intersect Power and TPG Rise Climate to co-develop industrial parks that combine gigawatts of data center capacity with new clean energy plants.
In a blog, Ruth Porat, Google’s President and Chief Investment Officer, says this initiative aims to streamline U.S. data center expansion while supporting decarbonization and addressing grid bottlenecks. The first phase of these co-located projects is expected to begin operations in 2026 and complete by 2027, with Google and its partners making capital investments in Intersect Power to advance the collaboration.
The project tackles critical energy challenges by aligning data center development with additional clean power generation. This approach, which Google calls a “power-first” model, reduces the timeline for deployment, mitigates grid strain, and enhances reliability. It also creates opportunities for rural economic development while enabling AI-driven growth and the onshoring of U.S. manufacturing.
• Google, Intersect Power, and TPG Rise Climate will build U.S.-based industrial parks combining data centers with clean power generation.
• The initiative addresses delays in U.S. grid infrastructure by coupling data center load growth with new power generation.
• Construction on the first site begins in 2026, with full operation expected by 2027.
• Intersect Power will develop new clean energy assets, with Google acting as an anchor energy offtaker.
• This model accelerates clean energy deployment and supports AI expansion while reducing strain on regional grids.
“The convergence of two megatrends — decarbonization and digitization — is creating unique opportunities for innovative partnerships,” said Jim Coulter, Executive Chairman of TPG and Managing Partner of TPG Rise Climate.
