NEC Completes Construction of 10,000 km Asia Direct Cable

NEC Corporation completed installation of the Asia Direct Cable (ADC), a new 10,000-kilometer (6,214-mile) submarine cable connecting six countries in East and Southeast Asia. The cable links China (Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, providing critical infrastructure to support the region’s increasing demand for high-speed connectivity.

The ADC submarine cable, developed in collaboration with the ADC Consortium, is built with multiple high-capacity optical fiber pairs capable of transmitting more than 160 Tbps. This makes it one of the highest-capacity submarine cables in the region, offering robust connectivity for bandwidth-intensive applications, including 5G, IoT, cloud computing, and AI-driven technologies. The system is expected to play a key role in meeting the growing data transmission needs of major information hubs across Asia.

“The completion of this cable signifies a major step forward in addressing Asia’s rapid digital growth,” said Tomonori Uematsu, Senior Vice President at NEC Corporation. “We are proud to have partnered with the ADC Consortium to deliver a solution that will significantly enhance network capacity and connectivity in the region.”

• Consortium Members: NT (Thailand), China Telecom, China Unicom, PLDT Inc., Singtel, SoftBank Corp., Tata Communications, and Viettel

“This new cable marks a significant milestone, providing the greatest capacity and diversity required for Asia’s information hubs,”said Billy Li, Co-Chairperson of the ADC Consortium.
