FiRa Consortium Releases Core 3.0 Specifications to Advance UWB

The FiRa Consortium has released the FiRa Core 3.0 Specifications and Certification Program, a significant update to ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. These advancements improve UWB’s efficiency and interoperability, introducing new features for precise ranging and secure positioning across multiple industries. The release includes Hybrid UWB Scheduling (HUS) for improved performance in complex environments, Dedicated Data Transfer for high-speed data transmission independent of ranging, and the Car Connectivity Consortium® (CCC) Digital Key UWB feature for secure proximity-based car access.

FiRa Core 3.0 builds on UWB’s ability to deliver highly precise, low-power location data by leveraging wide-frequency radio signals for accurate ranging and positioning. The technology’s fine-ranging capabilities make it ideal for applications such as secure access control, contactless payments, asset tracking, and indoor navigation. Core 3.0 advances further with a flexible Certification Program allowing manufacturers to certify specific features, ensuring device interoperability across industries such as automotive, smart home, and public infrastructure.
