ADTRAN's ONE Architecture Integrates Access and Packet Optical Transport

ADTRAN unveiled its Optical Networking Edge (ONE) strategy for integrating network access and aggregation with optical edge metro transport in a single platform.

ADTRAN’s blueprint is to enhance its widely-deployed Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP) with a mini-ROADM transport module with advanced network management capabilities. The initial release supports high bit rate Carrier Ethernet aggregation, SONET/SDH Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) on a card, CWDM and DWDM networking scalable from a single wavelength to 400Gbps on a single fiber pair.

Whereas metro core transport platforms deliver multi-degree capabilities for up to 80 wavelengths, ADTRAN’s metro edge transport approach uses a low-power, single card in its flagship TA-5000 platform for cost efficiency. The Total Access 5000 is a carrier-class multiservice access and aggregation platform with an Ethernet core. In addition to integrated packet optical transport, it enable the TA-5000 to support a range of business optical access services, including GPON, active Ethernet, GigE, SONET/SDH and wavelenghts.

ADTRAN said its ONE portfolio enables service providers to bridge the gap between network access and transport,
leverage their installed base and extend the bandwidth efficiencies of the core all the way to
the optical edge.

“The Total Access 5000 offers the broadest set of access, aggregation and transport capabilities on the market today,” said Mano Nachum, product line manager, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “Service providers can now depend on a trusted vendor with a proven all-Ethernet platform to extend the transport network to the edge and connect to their core optical network more efficiently.”http://www.adtran.com/ONE
