Airspan to Acquire Corning’s Wireless Business

Airspan Networks agreed to acquire the wireless business of Corning. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The deal includes Corning’s 6000 and 6200 distributed antenna systems (DAS) and its SpiderCloud 4G and 5G small cell radio access network (RAN) products. By integrating these offerings with Airspan’s existing small cell solutions for neutral-host coverage and private networks, the company will deliver a more comprehensive in-building wireless solution.

Key benefits of Airspan’s acquisition of Corning’s wireless business:

  • Expanded Product Portfolio – Includes DAS and small cell RAN products to enhance in-building connectivity solutions.
  • Enhanced Market Position – Strengthens Airspan’s leadership in neutral-host and private network deployments.
  • Proven Installations – Over 10,000 existing deployments in major venues and enterprise environments.
  • Strong Industry Relationships – Inherited relationships with top mobile operators, public venues, and enterprise customers.
  • Intellectual Property Portfolio – Acquisition includes 15 years of accumulated patents and technological innovations.

“This acquisition is a strategic step for Airspan, reinforcing our leadership in in-building connectivity and expanding our ability to serve enterprises and mobile network operators,” said Glenn Laxdal, President and CEO of Airspan. “As we integrate this business, our focus is on delivering a smooth transition for our customers while unlocking new opportunities for innovation.”

  • In October 2024, Airspan Networks Holdings LLC completed a significant financial restructuring to strengthen its long-term viability. The company secured $85.4 million in new equity financing and established access to an additional $20 million line of credit. This initiative, led by Fortress Investment Group, eliminated all of Airspan’s existing funded debt, transitioning the company to a private entity majority-owned by Fortress affiliates.
  • In July 2017, Corning acquired SpiderCloud Wireless, a company specializing in scalable small-cell network platforms designed to enhance in-building wireless coverage and capacity.
