Aqua Comms has activated a new fiber pair on its AEC-1 subsea network, which connects New York, Dublin, and London.

The AEC-1 system currently utilizes Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme and WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) optics. In the coming months, Aqua Comms plans to upgrade to Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme (WL6e), the first 1.6 Tbps coherent optical solution, which is expected to reduce energy use per bit by over 50% compared to the initial deployment.

Key Points:

• Aqua Comms activates a new fiber pair on AEC-1 network connecting New York, Dublin, and London.

• The system focuses on sustainability, reducing power consumption per Tbps and regeneration needs.

• Currently powered by Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme, with plans to upgrade to WaveLogic 6 Extreme for greater efficiency.

• WaveLogic 6 Extreme aims to cut energy usage per bit by more than 50%.

CCO Nick Barton said, “By continually investing in our systems, we are at the forefront of supporting the growing demands of our customers with high-bandwidth network services.”
