Asia Netcom to Extend via New Cable Landing Station in Qingdao

Asia Netcom will extend its undersea cable network via a Cable Landing Station operated by China Netcom in the northern Chinese city of Qingdao. This will provide seamlessly connectivity to China Netcom’s national fiber infrastructure.

EAC-Qingdao link will initially feature 80Gbps of capacity, and is upgradeable incrementally to 2.56 Tbps.

Qingdao’s proximity to key northern Chinese cities will reduce the distance by more than half between major commercial centers, such as Shanghai and Beijing, and the key North Asian markets of Japan and Korea as well as the U.S. Network latency will be reduced by up to 40% compared to existing routes to those locations through EAC’s Hong Kong landing point.

  • In January 2007, Asia Netcom announced plans to add a new trans-Pacific portion to its regional submarine cable system, EAC. The new 23,500 km cable, which is expected to be completed by July 2008, consists of a northern route connecting Japan to the US, and a southern route linking the Philippines to the US via Guam and Hawaii. EAC Pacific will also include a subsea link between the Philippines directly with Japan, which will close the ring design and integrate the trans-Pacific infrastructure with the current system. The new EAC Pacific system will feature 4 fiber pairs, each capable of supporting a minimum design capacity of 2.56 Tbps using 64-wavelength DWDM capable of transporting 10 Gbps per wavelength.
