AT&T awarded a multi-year contract to Nokia to expand and upgrade its fiber network, which currently covers 27.8 million locations. Over the next five years, Nokia will supply its Lightspan MF and Altiplano platforms to support both immediate upgrades and future network expansions. This agreement aligns with the Build America, Buy America initiative and sets the stage for the next generation of broadband services.

Nokia’s Lightspan platform is designed to support a range of Passive Optical Network (PON) technologies, including current standards such as 10G and 25G, and future advancements up to 50G and 100G PON. This flexibility allows AT&T to optimize its network for different use cases and evolving business needs. The integration of Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller will further enhance network automation, enabling more efficient service operations and faster deployment of new services.

• AT&T awards Nokia a multi-year contract for fiber network expansion.

• Nokia to deploy Lightspan MF and Altiplano platforms, supporting 10G, 25G, 50G, and 100G PON technologies.

• The deal supports AT&T’s compliance with the Build America, Buy America initiative.

• Nokia’s solutions will accommodate both current and future network expansions.

• Enhanced automation through Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller will improve AT&T’s network efficiency and service delivery.

Chris Sambar, Head of Network at AT&T, said: “Fiber plays a crucial role in providing the foundation for the services we offer to our customers. This expansion will not only enhance broadband access for millions of customers but also sets the stage for the next wave of digital innovation, including Industry 4.0, smart cities, IoT applications, and ultra-high-definition streaming.”

Sandy Motley, President of Fixed Networks at Nokia, said: “This collaboration is a major milestone in our mission to connect more people and businesses. Our fiber solution opens the door to a full range of PON technologies available on the same platform and fiber. This includes 10/25G PON today and eventually 50/100G PON in the future. Ultimately this can help operators like AT&T make the most of their existing fiber broadband networks today and in the future. Together, we’re paving the way for a more connected and responsible future.”
